  • Register and protect your work so it can be easily and safely licensed and sold to others and understand what's involved in buying or licensing the creative work of others. Understand the fundamentals of copyright, trademark, patent, performers rights, true life story issues, cinematographers rightswork-for-hire agreements.  The workbook associated with this video has links to the copyright.gov site and other relevent information sources.
  • Safely collaborate with and work with others. This includes co-writers, co-producers, as well as performers, writers, designers and others you might hire. If you don't know how to do due diligence on people and companies before you hand your screenplays, books, films, or performances over to them you are putting yourself and your work at risk whenever you sign an agreement.
  • Understand contract fundamentals so you don't accidently give away your work or create a contract that draws you into litigation. Handshake agreements can be enforced. Contracts made or changed under duress can't be. What you put in an email matters and the actions others take when they rely upon your promises matter.
  • Swiftly Publish books, audiobooks, posters, notebooks, postcards, podcasts, and other print and digital media works, as well as how to release films via Amazon, iTunes, Hulu, Netflix, etc using aggregators rather than distributors. If you are giving away a lot of the revenue your books, films, and performances earn simply to get paid and get distribution, it's likely because you don't understand all your options.
  • Create merchandise ranging from games to toys and clothing based on your original work. Most successful creatives earn most of their money from merchandising. That's something you can do too.
  • Hire people legally and give them workers compensation cheaply nationwide and why you must do this in order to avoid significant problems like being reported for wage theft or being fined if someone gets hurt while they are working with you. You will learn about specific tests that must be met if you are using "volunteers", or hiring "interns" and 1099 contractors to work on your projects, and why working with people this way may your ownership of their work can be called into question.  Just because you pay someone for their work doesn't mean you own it.
